What is the Size of the Zecboat Application?

Zecboat is a small download. The blockchain is not — but you only need it if you choose to run your own node.

What you download

Zecboat installer	24 MB
Sapling proving parameters	50 MB, fetched once during setup
Total	about 75 MB

The proving parameters are what let your own machine build shielded transactions. They are downloaded once and never again.

What it uses afterwards

Zecboat keeps a small database on your computer for your accounts, addresses and history. It is tens of megabytes and grows with your own activity, not with the size of Zcash.

If you run your own node

Optional, and much larger: a full Zcash node needs roughly 300 GB and a long first sync.

You do not need one. Zecboat connects to a public node by default and works in minutes. Running your own means nobody else can see which blocks you ask for — the private option, at the cost of the disk space.

You can switch between them in Settings at any time. Settings always shows the node actually in use.
